Deepinder Goyal, the CEO of Zomato, has advertised a position as Chief of Staff. This isn’t your typical corporate job, either. The chosen applicant must pay ₹20 lakh as a “fee” to assume the position, rather than receiving a salary in the first year. This unusual method to hiring and training has caused a stir.
According to Goyal’s statement, which was posted on X (previously Twitter), the perfect applicant would be insatiably hungry, sympathetic, and grounded, with no sense of entitlement and a great drive to learn. Unmatched exposure to some of Zomato’s largest projects, such as Blinkit, Hyperpure, and Feeding India, is promised by the position. It is being marketed as a fast-track education program that is comparable to a top-tier MBA.
According to Goyal, the position isn’t about extravagant benefits or big salaries. Rather, it’s about collaborating with some of the most brilliant minds in the business to shape Zomato’s future.
There is no pay for the first year. The chosen person must instead donate ₹20 lakh, which will go to Zomato’s non-profit hunger-fighting project Feeding India. Zomato will provide ₹50 lakh to a candidate-selected charity to show that the business isn’t slashing expenses. The post will become salaried after the second year; the precise amount will be revealed later.
The unconventional arrangement is intended to draw in individuals who are more driven by education than by money. The job description says, “Consider this as a fast-track learning program.” Instead than dazzling people with a prominent title or compensation package, the focus is on professional and personal growth.
Goyal has made it apparent that he is seeking real students who are prepared to take on the difficulties of a hard career rather than resume builders. Working under pressure and putting impact ahead of comfort is expected.Discussions on social media have been triggered by the job posting; some have praised its audacious strategy of drawing in talent who is truly interested in advancement, while others have criticized the high entry cost and the requirement that the candidate labor for free for a
Prospective applicants are required to send Goyal a 200-word cover letter without a resume. Words are more important than qualifications in the application process, which is another example of the nontraditional approach.
