EC slams down allegations of Congress in Haryana elections

News Mania / Piyal Chatterjee / 9th October 2024

Congressman Jairam Ramesh’s assertion regarding the “unexplained slowdown in updating of results of Haryana Assembly Elections 2024” on the EC website was sharply criticized by the Election Commission (EC). The election board stated that there was no evidence to support the Congress leader’s “ill-founded allegation” that the updating of Haryana poll results was taking longer than expected. The Congress had brought up the “unexplained slowdown” in posting the Haryana election results on the poll watchdog’s website earlier in the day with the Election Commission.

The party also urged the EC to direct staff to update accurate numbers so that “false news and malicious narratives” can be refuted immediately. Jairam Ramesh, the general secretary in charge of communications for the Congress, stated earlier in the day in a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners that there had been a “unexplained slowdown” in the last two hours between 9 and 11 am in the updating of results on the ECI’s website.

The Election Commission responded by stating that the vote counting is being done in accordance with Rule 60 of the Conduct of Election Rules at the designated counting centers and by the designated authorities in accordance with the statutory and regulatory framework. The EC said the entire counting process in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir is unfolding in the presence of candidates, observers and micro-observers as per guidelines.

“There is nothing on record to substantiate your ill-founded allegation of slowdown in updating of results. Your Memorandum also does not bring out any contrary facts as to the delay at any of the constituencies in Haryana or J&K,” the poll authority said.

The Election Commission’s statement added, “…Commission unequivocally rejects your attempt to surreptitiously give credence to irresponsible, unfounded and uncorroborated malafide narratives.”

Congress refuses to accept Haryana verdict in Assembly Polls, Pawan Khera says, ‘victory of system, defeat of democracy’

Refusing to accept Haryana verdict in Assembly Polls, Congress said, ‘this is the victory of the system and the defeat of democracy’ and further alleged that they have several complaints against the election commission

On Haryana Poll results, Congress leader Pawan Khera says, “If it is said in one line, this is the victory of the system and the defeat of democracy. We cannot accept this…We are collecting complaints. Our candidates have given complaints to the returning officers there and are still giving them. In the coming days, we will soon go to the Election Commission with all these complaints and register our complaint there. This kind of result was not visible anywhere on the ground. No one can believe that such an unexpected result will come in Haryana. We are all surprised.”

“The results are totally unexpected and we would even say that they are unacceptable. The kind of complaints that are continuously coming in. There are continuous complaints about our candidate from three districts, Hisar, Mahendragarh and Panipat. Complaints are continuously coming about how some batteries of machines that were 99% showed us losing and in the machines which were not touched, whose batteries were 60-70% shows our candidate winning…” he adds
