Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, and a police officer were detained on Saturday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to the rape and killing of a junior doctor at the facility. According to the CBI, they were involved in criminal conspiracy, tampering with evidence, disturbing the crime scene, breaking official regulations, and deceiving investigators.

On September 2, the central agency had taken Ghosh, 53, into custody in connection with a case involving corruption at the hospital. Right now, he’s incarcerated. The CBI called the inspector, Abhijit Mondol of the Tala police station, in for questioning on Saturday. Seven hours of questioning later, the authorities had him under arrest.

Sanjay Roy, a volunteer citizen connected to the Kolkata Police, was previously detained and accused of murder and rape. On August 9, the body of the junior doctor was discovered in a hospital lecture room. This discovery incited outrage among the public.

CBI sources claim that once the junior doctor’s body was found, Mondol was unable to adequately address his responsibility. It was allegedly discovered that he was interfering with the crime scene while serving as an officer in command of the Talal police station, which was in charge of the hospital. He allegedly postponed filing a FIR as well. He was brought to a hospital for a medical examination following his apprehension.

CBI sources claimed that both the doctor’s and the ex-principal’s roles were being investigated. According to sources, the inquiry turned up evidence of both rule breaking and attempted evidence tampering.

Tomorrow, Ghosh and Mondol are scheduled to appear before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court located in Sealdah. Additionally, the court ordered the Presidency Central Jail to present Ghosh on September 15 before it.Junior doctors who are agitated and the victim’s relatives have accused Ghosh and police officers of attempting to cover up the tragedy.
A demand made by indignant junior physicians has been for Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal to step down or be suspended.
