Firhad Hakim Was Given A Cleaning Order By Mamata Banerjee

On November 21, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee requested that Mayor Firhad Hakim immediately clean the area near Prinsep Ghat. She questioned aloud why there was no monitoring and why she had to bring these problems up repeatedly.

Mamata noted that the roads leading to Nabanna from Howrah, which used to be washed earlier, were no longer maintained with the same care. She seemed generally displeased with the cleanliness of the streets.

The state health department’s review meeting was where the chief minister was speaking. A dengue infection outbreak has been the state’s biggest public health emergency this year.

She questioned whether the individuals in charge of the upkeep were little children who required frequent reassurance that they had a task to do. On her Facebook page, the encounter was broadcast live.

Heaps of accumulated trash may be observed all throughout the city. According to entomologists, after rain, any amount of garbage might become a mosquito breeding ground. Small items, such as tea cups, that can collect water are virtually usually present in the waste.

In a teaspoon of water, the Aedes aegypti mosquito can develop and spread the dengue virus. The mosquito requires clean, stagnant water that can stay in a container for at least a week.

Many people have contracted the dengue virus this year in Calcutta and other cities. The illness has claimed many lives. No death toll has been disclosed by the state health agency.

On November 21, Mamata gave the Calcutta Municipal Corporation (CMC) the task of setting up a location along the Hooghly where Ganga aarti can be performed on a regular basis.

She suggested that the CMC take some time—possibly two years—to build the location, which must include a temple and a spot where guests can sit and take in the aarti.
