First 100 Quad Fellows Group Announced
The inaugural cohort of 100 Quad Fellows from Australia, India, Japan, and the United States has been announced by Jake Sullivan, US National Security Advisory. He said that these young Quad Fellows will strengthen ties amongst the Quad Nations when making the announcement.
The QUAD Fellowship Programme, a groundbreaking scholarship program created to foster relationships among the upcoming generation of scientists and technologists from the four member countries, was introduced by the Presidents of the Quad Nations in May 2021.
About the QUAD Fellowship Programme
Each year, 100 students will be supported by the QUAD Fellowship, 25 from each nation, as they pursue masters and doctoral degrees at top STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) graduate institutions in the US. The next generation of brilliant STEM minds, according to Sullivan, will be made up of a group of 100 varied, interdisciplinary, extraordinary, and inspiring kids from each Quad country. The program is run by Schmidt Futures in conjunction with a non-governmental task force made up of intellectual, foreign policy, and business professionals from each Quad country, according to information on the official website.
The Fellowship aims to create a network of scientists and technologists who are dedicated to fostering innovation and teamwork in the private, public, and academic sectors within their own countries as well as within the QUAD states. Through group excursions and in-depth programming with each nation’s leading scientists, innovators, and politicians, the Fellowship program also helps the QUAD Fellowes develop a fundamental understanding of one another’s societies and cultures.
Sullivan went on to say that each student has proven their dedication to fostering creativity and cooperation among the four great democracies as well as their passion for constructing a better future for the Indo-Pacific and the rest of the world. Under the direction of US President Joe Biden, the QUAD cooperation has reached new heights and will continue to expand in the years to come, according to Sullivan.
The ‘QUAD’ – Quadrilateral Coalition to Counter China’s Aggressive Behaviour in the Indo-Pacific Region – was proposed in 2017 by the QUAD Nations of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States.
