France Extends a Welcoming Hand: 5-Year Schengen Visa for Indian Students
In a move that deepens the ties between India and France, the European nation has introduced a groundbreaking provision granting Indian students an extended 5-year short-stay Schengen visa, even if they have completed just a single semester of studies in France. This announcement comes shortly after France extended post-study work visas for Indian students, further cementing its commitment to fostering educational connections and cross-cultural interactions.
The French Embassy issued an official statement, expressing its belief in the enduring connections forged when Indian students spend time studying in France. The new provision specifically targets Indian students who possess a Master’s degree or higher and have engaged in at least one semester of studies within France. This innovative approach aims to facilitate ongoing connections between Indian alumni and their French counterparts, nurturing a lasting bond between the two nations.
To qualify for the 5-year Schengen visa, applicants must meet certain criteria. They must have completed at least one semester of study in France and have attained a Master’s degree level or higher from a recognized university in India, France, or another third country. Furthermore, applicants are required to submit a comprehensive visa application adhering to the standard Schengen requirements, ensuring a smooth and streamlined process.
With this new policy, France envisions welcoming a substantial number of Indian students onto its campuses. The target is to host 30,000 Indian students in France by the year 2030. This ambitious objective underscores France’s dedication to providing world-class education and fostering cultural exchange for Indian students.
In alignment with these initiatives, the French Ambassador to India, H.E. Mr Emmanuel Lenain, shared his message of camaraderie and support for Indian students. He affirmed France’s inclusive and diverse spirit, offering its rich cultural heritage and top-tier education to Indian students. Lenain conveyed an unwavering commitment to ensuring a remarkable academic journey and life experience for Indian scholars in France, emphasizing that France remains a steadfast friend to Indian students.
To amplify this message and extend the outreach to Indian students across the nation, the French Embassy, in collaboration with the French Institute, unveiled plans for the upcoming “Choose France Tour 2023.” Set to take place in various regions of India during the month of October, this tour aims to create a bridge between students and the diverse educational opportunities offered by France. It serves as a platform for prospective students to explore the possibilities, experience the allure of French education, and engage with representatives from French institutions.
