G-7 Summit to Russia, Ukraine visit: PM’s key foreign engagements in first 100 days of Modi 3.0

BJP supremo Narendra Modi started his term as the Prime Minister of India on 9 June 2024 for the third consecutive time. The completion of the first 100 days of Modi 3.0 has seen the PM excel in several international affairs globally.

The first international engagement of his third tenure started with his visit to Italy for the 50th G7 Summit which was held from June 13-15 in Apulia, Italy. PM Modi held bilateral talks with major world leaders at that convention.

He then visited Russia on July 8 to attend the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. The PM held talks with Putin where the entire spectrum of the bilateral relations was discussed including trade and defence. During this visit, he was also awarded the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Russia’s highest civilian honour.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Austria on July 10.

The inauguration of the World Heritage Committee session took place on July 21 at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. India hosted the UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting for the first time.

India hosted the third ‘Voice of the Global South’ Summit on August 18 with over 120 countries participating.

PM Modi visited Poland on August 21-22 at the invitation of his Polish PM, Donald Tusk. During his visit, PM Modi held meetings with his Polish counterpart and the President and also engaged with the Indian community.

Modi then went on to visit Ukraine on August 23 at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In September, the PM paid visits to Singapore and Brunei which made him the first-ever Indian PM to do so.

On September 3, Prime Minister Modi accepted Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah’s invitation and made his official arrival in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. It was the Indian Prime Minister’s first-ever bilateral visit to Brunei. The Prime Minister’s historic visit took place on the 40th anniversary of Brunei and India establishing diplomatic relations.

He then went on to visit Singapore on a two-day visit from September 4 at the invitation of Singaporean PM Lawrence Wong.
