Global Diplomatic Gathering: G20 Summit to Host World Leaders in India, Hotels Ready for Distinguished Guests
The impending G20 Summit is set to paint India’s capital in hues of global diplomacy, as world leaders, including US President Joe Biden, converge for this prestigious event in the second week of September. Marked on the calendars of the world’s most influential figures, the summit will serve as a platform for discussions and collaborations that have the potential to shape the trajectory of international relations. As the spotlight shines on New Delhi, the city has rolled out the red carpet, with several elite hotels poised to host these distinguished guests.
Scheduled for September 9-10, the G20 Summit is expected to see the participation of 29 heads of states, along with top officials from the European Union, invited guest countries, and 14 heads of international organizations. This assembly of global leaders is a testament to the significance of the summit as a forum for deliberations on critical global issues.
As the event draws near, preparations are in full swing. Multiple hotels across Delhi-NCR have been earmarked to accommodate the attendees, ensuring their comfort and security during their stay. Among the leading establishments chosen to host these eminent guests are the ITC Maurya, Taj Palace, The Oberoi, The Lodhi, The Imperial, and Le Meridien.
Of notable mention is the ITC Maurya, where US President Joe Biden and his entourage will find themselves accommodated. This iconic hotel has previously played host to a roster of distinguished guests, including former US Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama, as well as other heads of state. Ahead of President Biden’s arrival, the premises of the ITC Maurya are undergoing rigorous inspections by the US Secret Service, ensuring every detail is meticulously managed for the safety and comfort of the POTUS.
In a display of meticulous planning, Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to take up residence at Delhi’s prestigious Taj Hotel. Similarly, Hotel Shangri-La is making preparations to welcome UK’s Rishi Sunak and German officials. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron and his delegation will find their lodgings at Claridges, while Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has the Imperial Hotel as his temporary abode during the summit.
As the G20 Summit looms, a proactive approach has been taken to ensure the seamless conduct of the event. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has given the green light to a proposal for the temporary closure of offices and commercial establishments in the Union Territory. Reports indicate that both private and Delhi government offices will remain closed from September 8 to 10. In addition, banks and commercial establishments, including markets in the New Delhi district, will observe a three-day shutdown. Schools and colleges are also slated for closure during this period.
In a letter to the chief secretary, Special Police Commissioner Madhup Tiwari expressed the importance of a controlled environment for the summit’s success. He appealed for the declaration of a public holiday in Delhi during the specified dates, as well as the closure of commercial and business establishments in the designated “controlled zone.”
As New Delhi readies itself to host these influential figures, the chosen hotels stand as symbols of the city’s warm hospitality and its role in fostering global diplomatic engagements. The gathering promises to chart new paths of cooperation and understanding, shaping the course of international affairs for years to come.
