Home Alone Star Daniel Stern Reveals Rare Admission about Christmas Classic
Daniel Stern, renowned for his portrayal of the bumbling burglar Marv Murchins in the beloved Christmas film “Home Alone” and its sequel, “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” surprised fans with a candid revelation. In an interview on Good Morning Britain, the 66-year-old actor confessed to watching the iconic movie only once. Despite its enduring popularity as a holiday staple for families worldwide, Stern admitted to quickly moving on from his roles once filming wraps up, Home Alone being no exception.
During his conversation with hosts Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins, Stern shared insights from his new memoir, “Home And Alone.” Reflecting on a particular scene involving a tarantula, he recounted discrepancies between his memory and the actual film, prompting him to revisit the scene. “Once I’m done with the movie, I’m kinda done with the movie – for me personally,” Stern admitted. However, he expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response from fans, describing the experience as the “blessing of a lifetime.”
Beyond reminiscing about his time on set, Stern shared an amusing anecdote involving former U.S. President Donald Trump, who made a cameo appearance in “Home Alone 2.” Recalling a night at a hotel bar during filming, Stern revealed how Trump generously treated the cast and crew to drinks, resulting in a hefty tab of $7,000 charged to Trump’s credit card. Despite the extravagant gesture, Stern emphasized the insignificance of the amount to the former president.
The revelation from Stern comes amidst recent news of the iconic house featured in the Home Alone films being listed for sale at $5.25 million. Situated in Winnetka, Chicago, the five-bedroom property served as the exterior for both the original film and its sequel. However, prospective buyers need not fear encountering Marv’s notorious traps or the eerie presence of a tarantula; the house has undergone significant renovations, erasing all traces of its cinematic past.
Stern’s portrayal of Marv Murchins alongside child star Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, and John Heard left an indelible mark on audiences worldwide. The premise of “Home Alone” revolves around the misadventures of Kevin McCallister (Culkin), who finds himself alone at home during Christmas and must defend his residence against hapless burglars Harry (Pesci) and Marv (Stern) while his family vacations in Paris.
The enduring appeal of “Home Alone” lies not only in its slapstick humor and heartwarming moments but also in its ability to evoke nostalgia for the holiday season. Despite Stern’s personal detachment from the film after its completion, his portrayal of Marv continues to resonate with audiences, cementing “Home Alone” as a cherished part of Christmas tradition for generations to come.
