NITI Aayog, together with the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), has created a portal that serves as a thorough repository for data on social, economic, and fiscal indicators, research reports, scholarly papers, and expert insights regarding State Finances spanning nearly 30 years (from 1990-91 to 2022-23). Respected Finance Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman is set to inaugurate the “NITI NCAER States Economic Forum” portal on April 1, 2025, in New Delhi.
The portal consists of four primary elements, specifically:
State Reports – providing an overview of the macroeconomic and fiscal conditions of 28 Indian States, organized by indicators related to demographics, economic composition, social, and fiscal metrics.
Data Repository – providing direct access to the entire database segmented into five categories, namely. Population; Economic Framework; Budgetary; Healthcare and Learning.
State Fiscal and Economic Dashboard – highlighting visual displays of essential economic indicators over time and offering easy access to raw data via a data appendix or extra details through summary tables.
Research and Commentary – relies on comprehensive studies of State finances and key elements of fiscal policy and financial management both at the State and national levels.
The portal will enhance comprehension of macro, fiscal, demographic, and socio-economic trends; it will offer easily accessible data in a user-friendly format and will also meet the continuous demand for consolidated sectoral data in a single location. It will also assist in comparing the data of each state with other states and the national statistics. It will also offer a platform for policymakers, researchers, and others keen on referencing the data for informed debates and discussions.
The portal will act as an all-encompassing research center, providing a multitude of data and analytical resources for thorough research investigations. It will serve as a central hub for information, offering access to a vast database of social, economic, and fiscal metrics covering the last 30 years. Utilizing historical trends and real-time analytics, users can monitor advancements, recognize emerging patterns, and develop evidence-based policies for growth.
