Internet Amused After Guinness World Records Posts Image Of “Tallest Man Ever-Living”

A photograph of Robert Wadlow, also referred to as “The Giant of Illinois,” from 1935 was posted on the Twitter page History in Color. The Guinness Book of World Records named the American man as the tallest man ever measured.

Its website states that Mr. Wadlow has held the records since 1955. When last measured on June 27, 1940, he stood 8 feet, 11.1 inches (2.72 meters) tall. Mr. Wadlow was an amazing 1.63 m (5 ft 4 in) tall at age five and required clothing for teenagers. At age eight, he passed his 5’11 father in height.

On the Guinness World Records website, it is stated that Mr. Wadlow had a disease that resulted in the hypertrophy of his pituitary gland. As a result, the level of human growth hormone was excessively high. But because of his extraordinary height, Robert developed a number of health problems that got worse as he aged and grew taller. But as a young boy, he made every effort to participate in the same pursuits as his friends.

Mr. Wadlow passed away at age 22. He passed away on July 15, 1940, in a hotel in Manistee, Michigan, as a result of a poorly fitted brace that had developed a septic blister on his right ankle just one week earlier.
