Internet cut – off in Manipur admits protests

In response to student violence during their protest march demanding the resignation of the state police chief, the Manipur government on Tuesday banned the internet for five days. Curfews were enforced by the government in Thoubal and the East and West districts of Imphal.
Following a string of highly skilled drone and rocket attacks on several settlements within the state decimated by war, the protest broke out. Following a recent wave of violence in Manipur that included drone and rocket assaults, at least eight persons have dead and over twelve have been injured.
Security personnel opened fire with tear gas shells earlier yesterday after female and student protestors engaged in combat with them as the agitators attempted to march on the Raj Bhavan. They are requesting that the Manipur government fire the DGP and the security advisor.
Hundreds of students attempted to march up the BT Road toward the Raj Bhavan after setting up camp at Khwairamband Women’s Market on Monday, but were halted by security personnel close to the Congress Bhavan.
