Introducing Dr. Arshia, Winner Of The Esteemed German Astronomical Society Award

Currently, Dr. Arshia M. Jacob is living her dream life. She has always had a passion for science and is currently a research scholar at the renowned Max Planck Society in Germany. In addition, she recently took home the prize for the finest research thesis from the German Astronomical Society.

Arshia, an Ernakulam district native from Maradu, earned a BSc (Honors) in Physics from St. Stephen’s College in Delhi. She participated in the ISRO’s PSLV Project as a part of her internship during the second year. This attracted her to astronomy.

Arshia pursued her post-graduation at Bonn University in Germany after earning her degree there in 2015. The director of the Max Planck Institute of Radio Astronomy was impressed by the thesis she presented for the course. She then had the opportunity to conduct research at the Max Planck Institute. Her work might be summed up as the investigation of the process through which clouds become stars.

Arshia conducts research on the elements and radiations found across the cosmos. Even certain details regarding the Milky Way’s chemistry were learned by her. Arshia even took a flight on the SOFIA research flight as part of the studies.

The Otto Hann Award, established by the Max Planck Society, was given to Arshia for her research. Thirteen scientists who conduct outstanding research in the disciplines of physics and chemistry are honored with the renowned Otto Hann award.

When she received the honor from the German Astronomical Society, she was basking in its glory. After finishing her program, Dr. Arshia, who is pursuing a post-doctoral fellowship at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, can travel back to Germany. She could continue her research with her own group of scientists at Max Planck.

Since its founding in 1948, the Max Planck Society has given birth to 23 Nobel laureates. The institute includes Swedish geneticist Svante Paabo, winner of this year’s Nobel Prize in medicine.

Science research requires perseverance and commitment. When results are unsatisfactory or leave the researchers without a clear conclusion, they must not become discouraged. To get the desired outcomes that could have a significant impact on humanity, they should work diligently and persistently.
