Joe Biden Unexpectedly Visits Kiev And Reveals Additional Arms Shipments To Ukraine
Prior to the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of the nation, US President Joe Biden paid a surprise visit to Kyiv on February 20 and pledged increased weapons deliveries and unwavering support for Ukraine.
Biden met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the US president’s first visit to the nation since Russian forces invaded on February 24, 2022, as air raid sirens wailed throughout the capital.
Military police in uniform from Ukraine lined the roadway outside. As a military salute played and the two presidents stared at each other in silence for a short while, Biden and Zelensky crossed the street and together placed a wreath at the Wall of Remembrance for the Russian-Ukrainian War’s fallen heroes.
Increased arms shipments to Ukraine were promised by Biden, who also pledged Washington’s unflagging commitment to protecting Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
More shells are reportedly being consumed by Ukraine each month than the EU defense industry is presently able to produce.
Zelensky praised Biden’s trip as a crucial demonstration of support.
Beijing reacted angrily to US allegations that China was contemplating arming Russia to help it in its conflict in Ukraine as the visit took place.
Josep Borrell, in charge of the EU’s foreign policy, also cautioned China against giving Russia weapons for the conflict in Ukraine.

Since Moscow began its all-out invasion a year ago, the European Union and the United States have strongly supported Ukraine and have given Kyiv billions of euros’ worth of weapons and financial assistance.
Concerns about Beijing’s growing ties to Moscow and its reluctance to categorically denounce the Kremlin’s aggression have been widely voiced.
In order to aid Kyiv in its battle, the European Union is also considering ways to speed up the production and delivery of ammunition.
Borrell gave a stern warning about Ukraine’s diminishing supplies of bullets and other types of munitions as it battles back against Russia’s invasion at the security conference in Munich over the weekend.
In Munich on February 18, US Vice President Kamala Harris claimed that Russia had attacked Ukraine’s civilian population widespread and systemically, committing crimes against humanity.
On February 21, as the conflict enters its first year, Biden will give a speech in Warsaw to applaud NATO’s unprecedented initiative to support Ukrainians in saving their nation.
Three days before the anniversary of Russian tanks entering Ukraine on February 24, President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to deliver an address of his own in Moscow on the same day.
