Kolkata’s CM Mamata Launches Ganga Aarti
Bengal West On March 2, Kolkata’s Baje Kadamtala Ghat hosted the opening of the Ganga Aarti, a ritual modeled after the one performed in Varanasi.
The Aarti ceremonies, according to her, will take place each night.
Every morning and evening, a temporary structure that will be used for the Aarti at the Hooghly river ghats will be taken down and put back up, according to Ms. Banerjee.
Priests recited chants in front of the statue of Ganga Devi during the ceremony, and the Chief Minister played a conch shell.
The Hooghly River’s Baje Kadamtala ghat was decorated for the occasion. Senior government officials, including Calcutta Mayor Firhad Hakim, were present at the event.
The KMC was instructed by Ms. Banerjee to begin Ganga Aarti on January 12, the date of Swami Vivekananda’s birth.
