The land assignment for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s memorial site may take longer. This is because sites for the building of a monument may only be granted to trusts, which have yet to be constituted in this case.

The government can set aside property for the monument, but it must be erected by a trust, according to authorities quoted in the Times of India. Manmohan Singh, 92, died on the night of December 26 in Delhi’s AIIMS Hospital. A preliminary study of land parcels available in the Rajghat region is being conducted for Singh’s monument. The area near the Kisan Ghat, which houses the memorial to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, is also being considered for Manmohan Singh’s memorial.

Rashtriya Smriti Sthal, the authorized location for the last rituals of presidents, vice presidents, and prime ministers, is also being considered. One of the officials used the example of Sadaiv Atal, the memorial created for former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to justify the delay in constructing Manmohan Singh’s memorial.

According to the source, even for the monument to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, land was allocated to the Atal Samiti Nyas (Trust). The Atal Samiti Nyas (Trust) was established more than a month after the late BJP leader’s death. After applying for the property piece, the trust negotiated an agreement with the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

The School of Planning and Architecture designed the samadhi, after which the trust released funding for construction to the CPWD. Vajpayee’s memorial, which spans more than 1.5 acres of land, was created at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal, where he was cremated on August 17, 2018. According to an Atal Samiti Nyas member, the land was assigned solely to the trust due to a policy change.
