Lawyers Inform The SC That He Can No Longer Defend Vijay Mallya Because He Is Untraceable And Incommunicado

On November 3, a lawyer for Vijay Mallya asked the Supreme Court to remove itself from the case involving the runaway billionaire because he was untraceable and hadn’t responded to any correspondence.
Mallya’s petitions about a financial dispute with the State Bank of India were being heard by the court.
The court’s bench approved the lawyer’s request to be released from the case, instructed him to give the court registry Mallya’s current home address and email address, and set the hearing for January of the following year.
Mallya was given a four-month prison term earlier this year by the top court for contempt of court for disobeying its orders. The court also ordered the government to take action to ensure Mallya’s presence in India.
However, the troubled businessman has yet to show up in India to begin serving his sentence, and extradition proceedings have been started by the Indian authorities in the UK.
Mallya’s extradition was approved by the UK high court in April 2020, but the case has been on hold for the past 2.5 years.
