Make Sure That The Voter List Only Includes Bangladeshis Who Support The TMC
By allegedly instructing TMC employees to make sure that only Bangladeshi immigrants who support the state’s ruling party secure a place on the voters’ list, a West Bengal MLA has sparked controversy.
Along with the rest of the nation, the state is now revising its electoral rolls.
Bardhaman Dakshin MLA Khokan Das is heard saying, “Many new people are coming…they are from Bangladesh,” in a fictitious video that has gone viral on social media. Many of these individuals support the BJP because they identify as Hindus.
Please make sure that the voter list only includes people who support our party. On November 15, in the evening, the politician was speaking at a public gathering in Bardhaman town.
PTI was unable to independently confirm the video’s veracity.
However, the MLA informed reporters when pressed to elaborate on his statement: “Illegal Bangladeshi immigrants enter our territory every day. I instructed TMC employees that their names shouldn’t appear on the voter list”. Soumyaraj Mukhopadhyay, a spokesman for the BJP’s Bardhaman organizational district, responded to the statement by saying that the MLA should inform the federal and state governments about the illegal immigrants rather than politicize the situation.
Prasenjit Das, the TMC’s Purba Bardhaman district spokesperson, asserted that the MLA’s remarks have been misconstrued and that the BJP is implementing CAA with political intentions.
