Moonvalley, an AI startup located in Los Angeles, unveiled a new generative video model on Wednesday. Named Marey in honor of Étienne Jules Marey, recognized as a pioneer in cinematography, the AI video model is claimed to be trained exclusively on ethically sourced licensed data. The startup claims that the process of acquiring training data results in a legal risk-free technology that is more likely to be embraced by movie studios and filmmakers. Moonvalley also stated that rather than providing the AI model solely as a text-to-video creation tool, it aimed to develop software that could be incorporated into studios’ processes.

The company clarified in a blog entry that it aims to depart from the standard “text input, video output” method of video generation models, which provide minimal control to filmmakers and do not align with their familiar process.

As per a report from TechCrunch, Marey is not an ordinary video generation model; rather, it provides various tools that allow filmmakers to have greater control over the results. It is said to provide customization features like motion control and camera type. The AI model is reported to enable users to manage the movements of a specific element within the scene. According to a press release, the report stated that Marey is capable of producing HD resolution video clips lasting as long as 30 seconds.

Marey will additionally receive support for multimodal inputs such as text, storyboards, sketches, images, and video segments. Furthermore, the company aims to provide a robust software experience that can be incorporated into the systems and workflows utilized by filmmakers.
