STORY SYNOPSIS
Polash Mukherji, the present Indian Ambassador to the United States has been arrested by Delhi Police on charges of espionage. He’s accused of leaking India’s secrets to China for years. Few days later, his daughter, Kaya, was arrested on similar charges in the US. Kaya was a compliance inspector at NASA and is accused of compromising sensitive data about a top secret Chinese spy satellite which was accidentally discovered by NASA.
The twin arrests were a trick played with China. Polash was arrested to help Vietnam authorities identify a Chinese mole in Hanoi. The CIA plotted Kaya’s arrest to nab a Chinese spy in NASA. And the dirty deal was supplemental to a top secret plan hatched up jointly between India and US to wage a psychological warfare on an unprecedented scale against China
The story then takes a turn to a romantic flashback three decades back. Paarth, Polash’s brother-in-law discovers a lady named Roohi Singh Shekhawat, the heiress of Alwar royal family who was a fellow batchmate of Polash during their Foreign services training. And as it turned out, Polash ruined her life. With his charming personality, he smartly laid an emotional trap for bedding with her. The tragedy was finally linked to her uncle and the lone survivor of the Royal Family, Mahendra Singh Shekhawat, who is now the country’s Prime Minister. NSA Vasudevan was his right hand man. Obliging to the PM’s unspoken wish, Vasu conjured up the entire case for teaching Polash a fitting lesson and interweaving it with the heated geopolitics in South East Asia. Shooting two birds with one stone.
Kaya was acquitted after a humiliating trial in the US. But NASA sacked her on grounds of non-compliances. The case against Polash didn’t hold ground and he was acquitted too. But the legal relief was too little too late. Polash was sacked from the foreign service. Aatrei, his wife, didn’t survive for long. The crisis took a toll on her health and one fine morning she didn’t wake up.
