BJP representative Nainar Nagendran from Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli constituency is ready to take over as the next state chief of the BJP, following K Annamalai, who is poised to assume a national position that appears to be a clear reward for his efforts in the Dravidian stronghold.
Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, visiting the city to assess the party’s operations and discuss alliance issues before the 2026 state elections, stated that Annamalai had achieved “commendable successes.”
“The Tamil Nadu BJP has received a nomination for the post of state president only from Shri @NainarBJP Ji. As the President of the Tamil Nadu BJP unit, Shri @annamalai_k Ji has made commendable accomplishments. Whether it is carrying the policies of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji to people or the programs of the party from village to village, Annamalai Ji’s contribution has been unprecedented.” “The BJP will leverage Annamalai Ji’s organizational skills in the party’s national framework,” Shah said in a social media update.
Nagendran was the sole participant in the competition with the support of BJP leaders. Nagendran, who is now the state vice president, previously belonged to the AIADMK. He was the initial candidate to reach the BJP state office, Kamalalayam, in T Nagar, and submit his nomination.
The current party chief K Annamalai, Union Minister L Murugan, former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, and BJP legislator and Mahila Morcha President Vanathi Srinivasan recommended his name. He is expected to be formally introduced as the new state president soon.
