Amit Shah, the senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister, attacked Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Congress, harshly on Wednesday for his remarks regarding reservations, claiming that they had once again highlighted the Congress’ opposition to them.
Gandhi received a harsh message from Shah, who stated that as long as the BJP is in power, no one can interfere with the country’s security or eliminate reservations.
Shah made these remarks in response to Gandhi telling Georgetown University students that the Congress would consider eliminating reservations when “India is a fair place,” which he claimed is not the case at the moment.
In a post on X, Shah said, “Standing with forces that conspire to divide the country and making anti-national statements have become a habit for Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party.”
“Rahul Gandhi’s statement lays bare the Congress’s politics of causing rifts on the lines of regionalism, religion, and linguistic differences. By speaking about abolishing reservations in the country, Rahul Gandhi has once again brought the Congress’s anti-reservation face to the forefront,” Shah wrote.
Mayawati, the president of the Bahujan Samaj Party, claimed on Wednesday that Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, was misrepresenting reservations. She also claimed that during the party’s ten-year tenure at the Centre, his own party prevented the passage of the bill pertaining to SC/ST reservation in promotions.
“Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s clarification that he is not against reservation is clearly a misleading and false statement. During the 10 years of his active participation in the government before the BJP came to power at the Centre, he, along with the SP (Samajwadi Party), did not let the Bill for SC/ST reservation in promotions pass,” Mayawati posted in Hindi on X.
“It is clear from this that when the Congress is not in power, it talks big about the welfare and interests of these neglected SC/ST/OBC for the sake of their votes, but when it is in power, it continuously works against their interests. People should be cautious of this conspiracy,” she added.
