SANGAM – THE INTER-SCHOOL LITERARY FEST AT DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL HOWRAH
When reading and practicing literature along with knowing about literary geniuses is becoming obsolete among the youth, Delhi Public School Howrah, under the able leadership of the extremely enthusiastic and progressive Principal Mrs. Sunita Arora and her competent team arranged for a magnificent Inter-School literary fest – ‘Sangam- A Literary Conglomerate’ celebrating the virtue of ‘Courage in Expression’, on May 8th at the school A/V auditorium.
The students of Class 6-8, who participated in this colorful event were from Saini International School, Howrah, Swarnim International School, Delhi Public School- Megacity, Delhi Public School – Barasat ,Silver Point School, H.M. Education Centre and of course the host school too.
The official photographer of the event was Ipsita Das a student of Class 8,from DPS Howrah.
The esteemed judges for the event were Mrs. Debjani Banerji, founder of ‘The Seeking Mind’, Ms. Richa Wahi ,Founder and Teacher at ‘Word Munchers’ and actor/activist/teacher of method acting Mr. Bobby Chakraborty, who lit the auspicious lamp and planted the symbolic saplings to start the fest.
We had the opportunity to speak to Mr. Chakraborty about the event and here is what he had to say… “I have shared a long and strong relationship with DPS- Howrah and Sunita ma’am, through my anti addiction campaigns. I have always believed that the urge to read and practice good literature in a child needs to be nurtured in today’s age of visual gratification only. Hence this splendid fest was the need of the hour, where students had two events to participate in. The theme for both being ‘courage’. The first one was ‘Turn Coat’ where a student had to enact a verbal debate between two courageous characters from literature. The second one was ‘Choral Recitation’ where a group of students recited and enacted a poem in chorus. Both the events had makeup, costume and props to be used by the participants. “
Mr. Chakraborty also informed us about the results where he said, “ The ‘Turn Coat’ event was won by Devayudh Das from DPS Megacity with his terrific verbal debate between Krishna and Karna. The ‘Choral Recitation’ was won by DPS – Howrah ,comprising of Sanskriti, Swachchotoya,,Mizaan, Zehra, Rupkatha,Adrika, Deeksha and Soumakshi, for their energetic, powerful and synchronized performance.
The mind-blowing event ended with the winners , participants and teachers being applauded and awarded by the judges ,followed by a mesmerizing Rabindra Sangeet by Mr. Bobby Chakraborty, keeping the eve of Rabindra Jayanti in mind and with The National Anthem.
