Warner Bros. has unveiled the trailer for “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” a poignant documentary that offers a heartfelt tribute to the late DC superstar. This film provides a deep dive into Reeve’s remarkable life, capturing both his iconic role as Superman and his transformation into a real-life hero following a tragic accident.

The trailer offers a glimpse into Christopher Reeve’s personal experiences and the profound changes he underwent. It showcases intimate moments with Reeve’s family, including his children Matthew, Alexandra, and Will, as well as touching tributes from his late wife, Dana Reeve, who passed away in 2006 after a battle with lung cancer. The film also features reflections from close friends like Glenn Close and Susan Sarandon, adding depth to the portrayal of Reeve’s life.

Among the most stirring scenes in the trailer are those depicting Reeve’s time with fans and his joyous moments, such as playing ice hockey. These segments contrast sharply with the harrowing footage of the accident that dramatically altered his life. In 1995, Reeve suffered a devastating injury during an equestrian competition, which left him paralyzed from the neck down. The trailer poignantly includes a clip of the accident, offering viewers a sobering reminder of the incident’s impact.

In one of the documentary’s most emotional segments, Reeve’s voiceover reveals his struggles following the accident. He reflects on the drastic changes in his life, expressing feelings of despair and loss, including his inability to engage in activities he once enjoyed, such as skiing and sailing. His poignant words, “I ruined my life and everybody else’s. I won’t be able to ski, sail, throw a ball to Will. Won’t be able to make love to Dana. Maybe we should let me go,” underscore the depth of his personal anguish during this period.

Despite the immense challenges he faced, Reeve’s resilience shone brightly. Together with his wife Dana, he became a formidable advocate for disability rights and spinal cord injury research. Their efforts led to the establishment of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which has played a significant role in advancing research and promoting legislative support for stem cell research.

Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” is set to debut in selected theaters on September 21, with a special encore screening on Reeve’s birthday, September 25. The documentary not only honors Reeve’s legacy as Superman but also highlights his remarkable journey from a beloved actor to a courageous advocate, offering an inspiring tribute to his enduring spirit and impactful contributions.
