During a day long stopover in New Delhi, where I had been invited as the Chief Guest and to Speak,I had to deliver my observations after some excellent speeches.
One of the speakers was the very affable and distinguished Maj.Gen.G.D(Gagan Deep).Bakshi.We took to each other instantly after we were introduced.Throughout the proceedings,he sat next to me.
Back to the Unites Nations Organization.To the average human,UNO,that comprises 193 member States,is the last resort to settle disputes for Nations powerful and not so powerful.Sadly,the UNO cannot do anything by itself since the five members of the all powerful Security Council,with their veto powers,ultimately decide what should be done.
Yes,the UNO does need reforms otherwise,eventually,it could go the way of The League of Nations.That,indeed,will be really sad.As matters stand,UNO is the only hope we have.All member Nations must co-operate and come to an understanding to make this ultimate institution of peace effective.
