Threatening The “Tea Movement” In New Delhi, Abhishek Banerjee Claims That There Is Only One Bengal.
This is Banerjee’s second trip to North Bengal in the previous three months; he had promised to make it there every two months last time.
In response to the BJP leaders’ demand for a separate Bengal, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee remarked in Jalpaiguri on September 11 that there had been only one Bengal, which is called West Bengal the previous six months.
Additionally, Ananta Maharaj Rajbongshi recently stated that the Home Ministry had informed him that there will be a division, that has significant influence over Rajbongshi voters in North Bengal.
Experts claim that the comment made in Jalpaiguri has political significance. After a poor showing in the Bengal elections in 2021, the TMC is now heavily focusing on North Bengal and targeting tea garden workers.
This is Banerjee’s second trip to North Bengal in the last three months; he had promised to make it there every two months previously. Banerjee addressed them following his party’s summits with labor union wings because the region is a tea belt and he wanted to address their concerns.
According to sources in the tea garden area, the primary issue is that they don’t receive provident fund (PF) and gratuity because mistakes were made when compiling the list years ago. Now that all PF accounts are connected to Aadhaar cards, the names on the cards and the records for the gardens are frequently different. The number of Aadhaar offices is really small. The majority of the workers, who are Adivasis, want the problem to be fixed. Additionally, locals claim that this is the first time the leader has visited to learn about their issues.
In his meeting, Banerjee stated that the Central Government is responsible for the PF issue and that if they don’t look into it, a movement will be organized.
