TV9 Bangla brazenly explores to find out the truth! This weekend TV9 Bangla digs out to find the controversial plot or the political intolerance that has caused for the banning of the screening of Director Sudipta Sen’s newly launch movie, ‘The Kerala Story’ in a news documentary, “Nishidhow Cinema” to telecast on 21st May, Sunday, at 10pm on TV9 Bangla News Series.

Apparently, the independence of an artiste in our country seems to be an uphill task. If the medium of an art is Cinema, then there is nothing like that. Omission by censor board, political intolerance, unnecessary interventions in the film shoots with the help of political goons, attacking amidst of film shootings has a long-dreaded history in our country. Why there is a disorder in the ban? Or is it the fear of loosing vote bank lurking behind or the attitude around the best of the opinion counts? TV9 Bangla takes a look at the long story of political intolerance in the wake of the government ban on the screening of the Bengal’s origin director, Sudipto Sen’s ‘The Kerala Story’ and its rejection of the ban by the Supreme Court. Although there has been a ban in the screening of several films, but Bengal has never put a ban from such screenings in the cinema halls.
Be right or left-led government, no political party is less. Many have not forgotten about the shooting memories of ‘City of Joy’ in the early nineties. The shooting of the film based on Dominique Lapierre’s novel ‘City of Joy’ was abandoned due to strong opposition from the left-led government. Even the director, Oscar-winner Rola Zoff’s unit has to be put together temporarily. Nationalist leaders had suffered with the same illness. What are the films that have been banned from the country?
What was the reason behind it? What is there in ‘The Kerala Story’, that made the Bengal government, Mamata Banerjee walk in the same field?
