TV9 Bangla pays tribute to 100 years of the legendary filmmaker, Mrinal Sen.

This week ahead brings two contemporary heroes, Satyajit Ray and Hrithik Ghatak, together under the same platform through one and only legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen, who put Indian Cinema into a global stage. Way back to the year of 1950, Mrinal Sen started silver screening with Satyajit Ray. Mrinal’s work has been shifted from romantic humanism to the world of betrayal. Mrinal himself said,” Kolkata 71 Lit -Motif is all about, the history of expoitation, times of poverty. At last we can say that exploitation can be eradicated by way of resistance, political struggle.
70s was the time of tumultuous and exuberance. Mrinal Sen weaved the tales of the broken dreams of middle-class Bengalis through black and white celluloids- Interview, Padatik, Kolkata-ekattor. These three films carried the significance of those times, as if it carried the pulse of Kolkata-Bengalis. The arms of terror rests on police administration and government behind democracy.
The vicissitudes of contemporary history drew the audience towards the flamboyant films like ‘Kolkata 71’. Mrinal also reminisced about how common people flocked to Metro cinemas hoping to catch a glimpse of a loved one, who was forever separated from his family in the whirlwind of the raging Naxal movement. Interviews, Calcutta 71 and Padatik– Mrinal’s Calcutta Trilogy uses a vividly real footage, protesting from Calcutta. Mrinal’s journey of films through those time is built by reckless, aggrieved, self-sacrificing youth. TV9 Bangla’s News Series, ‘Kolkata 71-A Mrinal’ is an essence of gunpowder carrying the celluloid memories of Mrinal Sen.
This, 14th May, Sunday, on Mrinal’s Centenary birthday, TV9 Bangla pays tribute through TV9 Bangla News Series at 10pm.
