Uniting Nations for Affordable Clean Energy: CEM-14 and MI-8 Meeting in Goa Promotes Global Collaboration

Representatives from over 40 countries gathered in Goa for the 14th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM-14) and 8th Mission Innovation (MI-8) meeting, where the focus was on finding affordable clean energy solutions through strong Public Private Partnerships. Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State for Science & Technology, emphasized the need for collaboration and reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the cause.

India, as the host country, highlighted its Clean Energy International Incubation Centre (CEIIC), a first-of-its-kind establishment jointly created by DBT/BIRAC, Tata Trust & Tata Power in 2018 under the Mission Innovation multilateral program. This incubation centre has already supported 45 Startups, with 35 patents filed, 10 commercialized products, and several raising substantial funding.

Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that the CEIIC aligns with MI objectives and offers advanced labs, expert mentorship, live test beds, and access to seed funds and scale-up investments. One notable achievement is the GBP 1 million Earth shot prize awarded to CEIIC-incubated StartUp ‘Takachar’ for its innovative technology.

The Clean Energy Incubator has launched three calls for applications to nurture a pipeline of entrepreneurs and start-ups, showcasing India’s dedication to fostering clean energy innovations through collaboration with the industry and international partners.

The success of this PPP model in promoting environment-friendly, affordable, and scalable clean energy solutions has broader implications for tackling global challenges. India aims to connect with other partners to further scale up innovations by start-ups and create a sustainable future.
