Unveiling of Hero Asian Champions Trophy: Igniting Excitement and Building Support for Team India

Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports and Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Shri Anurag Thakur, unveiled the highly anticipated trophy for the Hero Asian Champions Trophy, Chennai 2023 at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in New Delhi. On this occasion, the Union Minister also launched the ‘Pass the Ball Trophy Tour’ campaign.

The Hero Asian Champions Trophy, Chennai 2023 is scheduled to commence on August 3, 2023, featuring teams from India, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Pakistan, and China competing for the prestigious title.

During the event, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur emphasized the importance of the trophy tour in generating excitement and awareness. He highlighted that such tours inspire young players to dream of representing Team India someday. He expressed his confidence that India would create history by winning the Asian Champions Trophy for the fourth time.

Shri Anurag Thakur further stated that Chennai would be an excellent host for the tournament. He emphasized the government’s belief in cooperative and competitive federalism, which applies to the field of sports as well. He expressed his belief that cooperation among all stakeholders would ensure the success of the event, and players from all participating countries would cherish their experience in India. He wished Hockey India and all those involved in organizing the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 the very best.

The event was graced by the presence of Padma Shri Dr. Dilip Kumar Tirkey, President of Hockey India, Shri Bhola Nath Singh, Secretary General of Hockey India, officials from the Tamil Nadu government, as well as Indian hockey Olympians and players including Harbinder Singh, Ashok Diwan, Zafar Iqbal, Romeo James, MP Singh, HPS Chimani, and Vineet Kumar.

Following the unveiling ceremony, the trophy will embark on a tour across multiple cities in India, including Delhi, Chandigarh, Guwahati, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, Bangalore, Trivandrum, and the host city Chennai. The ‘Pass the Ball Trophy Tour’ campaign aims to create an electrifying atmosphere, building anticipation among hockey fans and garnering support for the Indian Men’s Hockey Team.

The Asian Champions Trophy, designed by renowned trophy designer Sanjay Sharma, is a work of art crafted with precision and care. It is composed of a harmonious blend of brass, aluminium, and copper, elegantly plated with nickel and gold. Each crystal adorning the crown, along with its exquisite design, has been custom-made for this prestigious trophy, adding a unique touch of grandeur.

The tournament, taking place from August 3 to August 12, 2023, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, will be broadcast live on Star Sports and Disney+ Hotstar, allowing fans to witness the thrilling matches and cheer for their favourite teams.
