Waste-Based Durga Pooja Idols Compete For Praise
In an effort to raise public awareness of recycling, a local artist in Kolkata has created an idol of the goddess Durga out of rubbish.
The idol will be put at the City Centre 1 shopping center in Salt Lake City. It is constructed out of materials like discarded clothing, worn-out shoes, dusted wooden objects, cracked flower pots, and outdated newspapers.
According to Arijit Ghatak, the craftsman who is creating the idol in his workshop, the waste items were gathered over the course of the previous month from various locations in Kolkata.
According to a representative of 92.7 Big FM, which has taken the initiative, visitors will be informed about the waste materials used in the creation of the idol because no one can understand by looking at the finished product.
In north Kolkata, a village Durga Puja committee has erected an 11-foot idol constructed of fiber and ashtadhatu, also known as octo alloy.
The one-ton idol that Mintu Pal made for Beniatola Sarbajanin is said to be the most expensive representation of the goddess in West Bengal.
A silicon idol measuring 10 feet tall was produced by another Puja group. The goddess has been portrayed as a mother holding a child in her lap and having her other three children sit next to her. The devil is also seen standing next to her, hands folded.
