Clarification on G20 Summit Dinner Attendees: No Business Leaders Invited

The upcoming G20 Summit in 2023 has been the subject of widespread anticipation and speculation. Amidst the flurry of reports and rumors, the Indian government recently took to social media to provide a crucial clarification: no business leaders have been invited to the G20 dinner, contrary to earlier reports. This announcement follows a report that suggested prominent business figures would be in attendance at the special dinner scheduled for September 9.

In a tweet, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) addressed the issue, stating that an article had claimed that prominent leaders had received invitations to the G20 Special Dinner at the Bharat Mandapam on September 9. However, the PIB emphasized that this claim was misleading and categorically stated that no business leaders had been extended invitations for the dinner. Media reports had circulated based on an article published by Reuters, which alleged that a list of business luminaries, including Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, N Chandrasekaran, Kumar Mangalam Birla, and Sunil Mittal, had been invited to join the event. These business leaders were expected to join an illustrious gathering of G20 leaders, which includes figures such as US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. According to the report, it was estimated that approximately 500 business leaders would attend the dinner, hosted at the Bharat Mandapam, a state-of-the-art venue costing $300 million, inspired by the elegant form of a Shankh or conch shell. The G20 Summit’s menu was also noted to feature Indian cuisine with a particular focus on millets.

Amid the whirlwind of excitement surrounding the G20 Summit, it’s essential to clarify the absence of business leaders from the guest list at the special dinner. This development underscores the primary focus of the G20 Summit, which is to facilitate discussions and cooperation among world leaders on a wide range of global issues.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that the absence of two significant world leaders, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, from the G20 Summit has garnered attention. Both leaders have chosen not to attend the summit over the weekend, and their absence has generated interest and speculation about its potential implications.

The G20 Summit is a crucial platform for global leaders to discuss and address pressing issues such as economic stability, climate change, and public health. With this clarification, the focus can return to the vital discussions and collaborations that will take place at the summit, ultimately shaping the future of our interconnected world.

As we look forward to the G20 Summit in 2023, it is evident that the event will continue to be a beacon of global cooperation and diplomacy. World leaders will come together to address shared challenges, foster understanding, and work towards a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
