EASTERN RAILWAY CELEBRATED CHILDREN’S DAY WITH GREAT ENTHUSIASM AND GAIETY/RAILWAY SECURITY FORCE of Eastern Railway EMPOWERS DREAMS: RESCUES AND REHABILITATES 614 CHILDREN, CELEBRATING CHILDREN’S DAY 2023

To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and to raise awareness about the importance of Children in Nation building, Eastern Railway hospitals celebrated Children’s Day today, 14th November, 2023 in a befitting manner. Pandit Nehru was deeply devoted to children and believed in their potential to shape the future of Nation. He advocated for their education, welfare and overall well-being.
“Children of today will make the India of tomorrow. The way we bring them up will determine the future of the country” – Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
On this day, the Paediatric Department, B. R. Singh Hospital extends sincere wishes to the children, the pillars of tomorrow and recognize the collective responsibility to provide them with a nurturing environment to unlock boundless potential and a bright future. A function was held in the Children Ward of B. R. Singh Hospital by the Doctors, Sisters and Staff to commemorate the occasion. Balloons and candies were distributed among the children.
Similarly, Paediatric and Health & family Welfare Department of Divisional Railway Hospital, Howrah celebrated Children’s day, wherein Health check up of the children was done by Dr. V. Pandey Additional Chief Medical Superintendent, Health & Family Welfare and Dr. Chaitali Patra Divisional Medical Officer, Paediatric. Weight, Height measurements, clinical checkup, Anaemia and Thalassemia screening were included in the health checkup. Dr. Debasish Guha, Chief Medical Superintendent, Howrah gave the little ones a warm and loving speech. In this programme, solo dance, group dance, songs, a skit on healthy diet were performed by the loving little angels. Lastly, Chief Medical Superintendent, Howrah, along with other senior Doctors distributed prizes to the participants.
Children’s day was also celebrated at Children Ward, Workshop Railway Hospital, Kanchrapara. The ward was decorated with colourful balloons, banner etc. Chocolates, cakes, chips, soft drink were distributed among the children.
Divisional Railway Hospital, Asansol observed Children’s Day in collaboration with Srijan, an NGO working for the welfare of the Children. Baby towels, toys, fruits, snacks were distributed among Children in maternity and Children ward along with awareness campaigning among mothers of new born babies and Children regarding how to maintain good health.
On this auspicious occasion of Children’s Day, the Eastern Railway Security Force (RPF) underscores the belief that children are the building blocks of our nation. In a profound commitment to this principle, the Railway Protection Force has demonstrated exemplary efforts in rescuing and rehabilitating 614 young lives, comprising 328 boys and 286 girls. In a noteworthy achievement, the Railway Protection Force of Eastern Railway has demonstrated exceptional dedication in reducing the number of abandoned children, as reported up to October 2023.
Equally commendable is the swift action taken in the rehabilitation process. All the rescued children have been successfully placed in appropriate care environments. The collaborative efforts of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and local Police Groups (GRPS/Local Police Station) have been instrumental in ensuring that these children receive the support and care they deserve. NGOs have contributed significantly, taking responsibility for 588 children, rescued by RPF.
This achievement aligns with the spirit of Children’s Day, a day that celebrates the importance of nurturing and protecting our youth. The Eastern Railway’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of abandoned children is commendable and reflects a shared responsibility towards building a brighter future for our nation.
