Guwahati: Assam law and justice minister Ranjit Das has stressed every possible step to ensure that not even a single wrong doer is left unpunished.

In his address at a recent event in Guwahati organized by the National Council of Akhil Bharatiya  Adhivakta Parishad, he said that the BJP-led Government in the State with Himanta Biswa Sarma as Chief Minister, was leaving no stone unturned to ensure speedy justice for the people of all walks of life.

He said that like never before the state government wants the justice for the common people to be delivered quickly and effectively. This way, he said, the confidence of the people would be restored on the entire justice delivery system.

The minister for law and justice further stressed more and more measures to deal with the criminals involving children saying that they were the future of the nation. He said that every single criminal in these cases should be put behind the bars.

Citing the recent record of the National Crimes Record Bureau (NCRB), Das said that there has been an increase in the rate of conviction in the state in 2023 compared to 2021 and 2022. According to him, the conviction rate in 2021 was only 5.6% which went up to 13.5% in 2022. But in 2023, the figure has gone up by 16.42%.

He, however, said  overloaded cases have been forcing delay for the investigating agencies to probe the various cases in time. He said that the government was in the process to withdraw some small or insignificant cases since these consumed more time for the stakeholders.
