Warner Bros has officially dismantled the Cartoon Network website, redirecting all its content to a landing page on Max, the company’s subscription-based streaming service. This decision, effective from August 8 according to a Variety report, marks a significant shift in how fans will access their beloved Cartoon Network shows. Now, viewers must subscribe to Max to continue enjoying their favorite series.
This strategic move appears to be part of Warner Bros’ broader cost-cutting measures while simultaneously pushing viewers towards its subscription service. The new landing page for Max prominently features a pop-up message guiding users to stream Cartoon Network content via the subscription service. It reads, “Looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? Check out what’s available to stream on Max (subscription required).” The message also highlights the availability of a Kids Profile on Max, designed with rating restrictions and additional privacy features to ensure a safe viewing experience for children. For those who still prefer traditional cable, the message reassures that Cartoon Network programming remains accessible via TV and connected apps.
Previously, the Cartoon Network website provided full episodes, video clips, and free access to games based on popular shows like “Teen Titans GO!”, “Adventure Time”, and “Gumball.” The site’s closure means that fans will now need to navigate through Max to enjoy these offerings.
In response to the website shutdown, a Cartoon Network spokesperson elaborated on the network’s shift in focus. They stated, “We are focusing on Cartoon Network shows and social media platforms where we find consumers are the most engaged and there is a meaningful potential for growth.” The spokesperson also confirmed that Cartoon Network will continue its television programming, with 11 hours of content broadcast daily from 6 am to 5 pm.
This development follows recent speculation about the potential shutdown of the network, which had caused significant concern among fans. In a statement addressing these rumors, Cartoon Network clarified that there was no truth to the speculation about the network or its studio shutting down. The network assured its audience that it remains committed to investing in new and innovative content that will continue to entertain and inspire viewers globally.
The closure of the Cartoon Network website has prompted a wave of reactions online, with the hashtag “#RIPCartoonNetwork” trending on X (formerly Twitter). The trend was sparked by a viral video from the account “Animation Workers Ignited,” which questioned the future of Cartoon Network. Despite the upheaval, Warner Bros’ move reflects a broader trend of consolidating content onto subscription-based platforms while adjusting to evolving consumer engagement patterns.
