IIT Kharagpur Postgraduate Student Dies After Drowning in Japan

Kharagpur : A 25-year-old postgraduate student of IIT Kharagpur, Shyam Santosh Agarwal, died after drowning while swimming in Japan on Sunday according to Institute sources,
Sources at IIT Kharagpur stated that Santosh Agarwal was was an exceptionally bright student pursuing his postgraduate studies in the Department of Architecture and Regional Planning. He resides in Lal Bahadur Shastri Hall of Residence at the IIT Kharagpur campus and he was originally belonged to Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra.
Earlier this year, Agarwal was selected for an international internship at Hiroshima University in Japan. He had been in Japan since May, and his internship was scheduled to continue until December.
According to sources, Agarwal suddenly drowned while swimming in Japan. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors tried to save him. However, he could not be revived.
The news of his death has left the IIT Kharagpur community deeply shocked and saddened. On Monday night, IIT Kharagpur Director Suman Chakraborty expressed grief over the incident and described it as extremely unfortunate.
He had received a prestigious internship opportunity and had travelled to Japan for it. It is deeply distressing that he lost his life in this tragic accident.
