TMC boycotts three news channels in the light of Kolkata rape-murder case

The All India Trinamool Congress has issued a circular on their ‘X’ handle which notified that they are boycotting three Bengali news channels: ABP Ananda, Republic Bangla and TV9 Bangla.

After the horrendous case of a female junior doctor’s rape and murder at Kolkata’s esteemed government hospital RG Kar Medical College, these media channels have been reporting relentlessly about the incident and have not backed down from calling out the ruling party for this unfortunate mishap.

The circular accused these three media channels of propagating an “anti-Bengal” agenda. Taking the matter to ‘X’, the party tweeted, “We also clarify and request the people of West Bengal not to be mislead by individuals portrayed as party supporters, sympathisers on these platforms during discussion or debates as they are not authorised by the party.”

Calling their actions and reporting “anti-Bengal nexus”, TMC further accused that the channels are doing so to “appease the Zamindars of Delhi, given the investigations and ongoing enforcement cases their promoters and companies are facing”.

The whole state of West Bengal is going through several protests each day by young doctors and civilians. The junior doctors have also been on a cease-work for all outdoor units except for the emergency services in demand of justice for the incident and a watertight investigation.

Although the Supreme Court of India hearing was scheduled to happen on September 5, it has been deferred due to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud’s unavailability to preside over the court.

The citizens and the doctors are awaiting justice which has been impending for almost a month.
