The CBI said a Sealdah court that the doctor’s rape and murder within Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital may have been part of a larger conspiracy. According to the agency, Abhijit Mondol, the officer-in-charge of Tala police station, and Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the college, could have been key players in the alleged scheme.
The agency said the court that they were in contact with each other following the incident and that Ghosh gave the policeman instructions on how to handle the rape-murder inquiry while they were in detention.
The CBI detained Sandip Ghosh and the police officers last week. The court placed them under the custody of the CBI till September 17 on Sunday.
The agency declared that it wished to question them in person. Both government representatives from Bengal, it alleged, had attempted to “downplay the incident”.
Abhijit Mondol took a “unusually long time to arrive at the scene of the crime,” according to the agency. The Indian Express said that it stated the crime scene was only a five-minute drive away. According to the agency, the policeman arrived at the crime scene around 11 am, despite having been notified of the crime at 10.03 am.
“We have got their custody for three days till September 17. Now, both will be questioned together. The duo played vital roles in the RG Kar case,” an officer said.
