Gurmeet Chaudhary on rejecting the image of Lord Ram : Had to wait for 1.5 years

As Guru in Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein season 2, Gurmeet Chaudhary joined the cast. In addition to captivating the audience, his role represents a dramatic departure from his initial role in the entertainment business, which was that of Lord Ram in the Ramayana. The actor talked about how he fought against being typecast and had to wait more than a year and a half to deviate from the portrayal of Lord Ram at a session at Sahitya Aajtak 2024.

Speaking during the session, Gurmet Chaudhary shared, “People typecast you in the industry. When I did Ramayan, I was 24-25 years old. It was the first show for Debinna (his co-star on the show, and his wife) and me. It became popular and people used to behave how they would behave in front of an idol in a temple. It felt very good. But, after a time, you feel like you want to explore other characters too.”

He continued, “I learnt so much because I was in the character of Lord Ram for one and a half years. But the biggest challenge was to not do such a character any more, because I wanted to explore more. And for one and a half years, I was only approached with such characters. It was after the wait that I could take the leap, and get into films.”

Along with his co-stars from Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein S2, Anchal Singh, Shweta Tripathi, and Tahir Raj Bhasin, Gurmeet Chaudhary was in attendance. Netflix is presently offering the series for streaming.
