According to a senior leader of the grand old party on Monday, top leaders of the INDIA bloc, including Rahul Gandhi of the Congress and Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD, may attend the swearing-in ceremony of the Hemant Soren government here on November 28. Despite a full-scale assault by the BJP-led NDA, which only secured 24 seats, Hemant Soren’s JMM-led alliance on Saturday swept to power in Jharkhand for a second consecutive term, securing 56 seats in the 81-member legislature. By a margin of 39,791 votes, Soren defeated Gamliyel Hembrom of the BJP to keep the Barhait seat.
“All top leaders of the INDIA bloc are being invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony at Morabadi Ground here on November 28. Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav are likely to attend the event,” the Congress leader told
According to the original intentions, which called for one ministerial post for every four seats won, there may likely be four ministers from the grand old party. JMM won 34 of the 43 seats it ran for, the most the party has ever had. In the INDIA bloc, the Congress won 16 seats, the RJD four, and the CPI (ML) two. RJD may receive one ministerial seat in accordance with the arrangement.
In the meantime, the oath-taking ceremony is being prepared. Soon after he was unanimously elected as the legislative party leader by the INDIA bloc in the state, Soren visited with Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Sunday and asserted his claim to form the government.Prior to asserting his claim to form the administration, he resigned as chief minister. Until he is sworn in on November 28, he will serve as the acting chief minister.
“I met the governor. We staked claim to form the government, and handed over support letter of alliance partners to him. He invited us to form the government. The swearing in ceremony will be held on November 28,” Soren had told reporters after meeting Gangwar.
Soren will be sworn in as the 14th chief minister of Jharkhand, which was carved out of Bihar on November 15, 2000. He will be sworn in as the chief minister for the fourth term. The majority mark in the state assembly is 41 seats.
