Five landlords were charged by the Jammu and Kashmir Police with “knowingly or unknowingly” renting out their properties to Rohingya people.
Under BNS section 223 (failure to comply with order given by public servant), separate FIRs were filed against them. Three of them were charged at the Bahu Fort police station, while two were charged at the Nowabad police station.
The Rohingya individuals to whom the landlords had rented property were “undocumented and pose a potential security threat,” according to the police, who noted that “Jammu police have initiated a comprehensive investigation in this regard.”
The action was characterized by police as “a significant step to ensure public safety and curb the illegal influx of Rohingya refugees.” Police also cited a directive from the Jammu District Commissioner that required all district property owners to verify their tenants.
According to officials, this decision was issued in response to growing worries about the possible threat posed by antisocial elements and unauthorized people who would utilize rental premises for unlawful purposes.Police stated they are still dedicated to protecting the public’s interests and asked all landlords to use caution and thoroughly screen potential tenants before renting out their properties.
