Sri Lanka Navy Chief Visits India to Strengthen Maritime Cooperation

New Delhi: Sri Lanka Navy Commander Vice Admiral Damian Fernando is on an official visit to India from August 26 to 29, aimed at strengthening bilateral maritime cooperation and Navy-to-Navy engagement. On August 27, he received a ceremonial Guard of Honour at South Block and paid homage to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial.VAdm Fernando held discussions with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan on joint operations, capacity building, training and maritime security. He is also scheduled to meet senior defence officials and interact with Indian defence industry representatives to explore cooperation opportunities. During his visit, he will travel to Kochi to visit Indian Naval training establishments and Headquarters Southern Naval Command. The visit is expected to further strengthen the longstanding India-Sri Lanka maritime partnership and stability in the Indian Ocean Region.
