Shiv Sena UBT leader Sanjay Raut said on Friday that assaults on Marathi-speaking individuals have escalated since the BJP won the Maharashtra assembly elections, and that an environment is being created to force them out of Mumbai and surrounding areas. Raut told reporters about an incident in Kalyan, Thane district, when non-Marathi-speaking persons reportedly attacked a Marathi-speaking family. He also termed the Maharashtra administration “inauspicious” in light of the 14-person death toll in a collision between a navy boat and a passenger ferry. He said that dacoity and killings were occurring in villages and regions.
“A conspiracy is being hatched to attack Marathi manoos. Kalyan was the start,” he said.
The Sena (UBT) representative alleged that the BJP divided and undermined the Shiv Sena, a “organisation of Marathi manoos,” so that indigenous are regarded as second-class people, and Mumbai and its surroundings are handed to non-Marathi-speaking builders and businesses.”Attacks against Marathi manoos have intensified after the state assembly elections. Attempts are being made to force Marathi manoos out of Mumbai, and an atmosphere is being created to ensure that Marathi manoos do not reside in Thane and Kalyan,” he claimed.
Raut slammed Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, claiming that people who call themselves the Shiv Sena and are part of the administration are inept and unconcerned about the Kalyan tragedy. “They (Shinde-led Shiv Sena) are desperate for power. The BJP’s stand is to destroy the Marathi manoos,” he said.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in the state legislature on Thursday that some organizations designated as frontal organizations of urban Naxals by the Congress-NCP administration in Maharashtra and the Manmohan Singh government at the Centre took part in the Bharat Jodo Yatra. In response, Raut stated that one should not pay much attention to what the chief minister says and questioned if actor Amol Palekar, social activist Baba Adhav, and veterans who fought in the army that participated in Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra were Naxals.
“He (Fadnavis) should focus on corrupt people around him,” he said.
In the face-off between opposition and NDA MPs on Parliament grounds over the alleged disrespect to Dr. B R Ambedkar, Raut stated former ministers Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, who were purportedly hurt in the altercation, excelled in acting and should receive a trophy for dramatics. After a FIR was filed against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, in connection with the scuffle, the Sena (UBT) MP stated, “It is their (BJP) government.”
