Ukrainian officials reported on Monday that overnight Russian drone strikes ignited a fire in Kyiv, injured a woman, and caused damage to multiple homes in the northeastern city of Sumy. On Monday, the Ukrainian military reported that it had intercepted 61 of 83 drones, with an additional 22 possibly taken down by electronic warfare.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated in a Telegram post that there were no injuries reported in the attack that caused a fire at a non-residential building in Kyiv.

However, a 38-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital after drones were launched by Russia at Sumy, the administrative center of the larger Sumy region, according to Ihor Kalchenko, the region’s governor, on Telegram. He mentioned that five houses were also affected.

The images shared by the emergency services from the scene exhibited vehicles consumed by fire alongside a tall building with shattered windows. Emergency services reported that the assault shattered over 300 windows and led to the evacuation of 65 residents from the affected houses. Russia did not provide any comment.

Both parties reject accusations of targeting civilians in the extensive invasion initiated by Russia in February 2022. However, thousands of non-combatants have lost their lives in the conflict, with the overwhelming majority being Ukrainian.
