Two persons, including a guy from Pakistan, were detained by the Punjab Police on Tuesday in relation to the grenade assault outside the Jalandhar home of BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia. The crime was solved in 12 hours, according to a top police official, who called it a “major conspiracy” meant to sabotage peace in the community.
Zeeshan Akhtar and Shahzed Bhatti, who is located in Pakistan, are the main conspirators behind the assault, according to Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla during a news briefing. He stated that the authorities are looking into their ties to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a banned Khalistani organization.
A forensic team examined the spot soon after the blast. Police said an autorickshaw used in the attack has been recovered.
“The case has been solved in a scientific manner. We are in touch with central agencies and continuing with raids. Preventive measures are also being taken,” said ADGP Shukla. He added that the Punjab Police is cracking most such cases swiftly and is committed to maintaining law and order in the state.
In response to the occurrence, Manoranjan Kalia stated that at first he believed the sound to be thunder or a transformer blow. After someone at his door told him, he subsequently realized it was a grenade explosion. An aluminum barrier, his SUV, a motorbike in the courtyard, and the glass windows of his house were all broken by the blast.
In the last six months, Punjab has been shook by a slew of grenade assaults, this being the most recent. At least 16 similar attacks have occurred in the state since mid-October 2024, targeting a variety of locations, including residential areas, police posts, institutions of worship, and now a political figure. A shrine in the Khandwala neighborhood of Amritsar is among them, as are explosions at police stations in Amritsar, Nawanshahr, Batala, Gurdaspur, and Patiala.
