Four detained for the murder of TMC leader Rajjak Khan amid a surge of killings.

West Bengal police have apprehended four individuals related to the murder of Rajjak Khan in Bhangar, just days after a leader of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) was killed in South 24 Parganas district. The police confirmed the arrests on Monday. They took a suspect into custody on Sunday, who had previously claimed connections to TMC, regarding the murder. During questioning, the suspect, named Mofazzel Mola, provided the police with the names of three additional individuals who were supposedly involved in the offense.

The police quickly responded to the information and apprehended the trio, named Azharuddin Molla, Jahan Ali Khan, and Raju Molla, during operations carried out in Bijayganj Bazar and Chak Maricha regions late on Sunday .

Rajjak Khan, aged 38, was reported to be a close associate of TMC leader and Canning Purba MLA Saokat Molla. He was gunned down while heading home after participating in a party meeting in the Chaltaberia region on Thursday night. He served as the president of TMC’s Chaltaberia unit.

A 42-year-old TMC leader named Piyush Ghosh was killed by gunfire in West Bengal’s Birbhum district early on Sunday.  Ghosh, the president of the Srinidhipur panchayat, was shot close to his home in the village of Komarpur, Birbhum.  According to a report, the police arrested three individuals, including two females, linked to the murder.

“One bullet was fired from close range. Someone close to the deceased could be involved in the murder. We are probing possible business disputes,” a police officer told. Ghosh’s assassination was the third occurrence in recent days involving the killing of a TMC leader. Besides Ghosh and Rajjak Kham, Abul Kalam Azad, a TMC worker at the panchayat level, was murdered with a machete while marking his birthday on July 10 in English Bazar, Malda.
