Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a rally in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, accusing him of resorting to theatrics to win elections. Campaigning for the Mahagathbandhan alliance alongside Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, Gandhi claimed that Modi would “even dance for votes,” alleging that the Prime Minister prioritises publicity over governance.

“If you tell Modi ji to come on stage and dance, he will do it. He can go to any extent for votes,” Gandhi declared, drawing loud cheers from the crowd. The Congress MP accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of running Bihar through remote control, saying Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was merely a symbolic head. “Three or four people control the state. BJP controls it — they have nothing to do with social justice,” he said.

Gandhi also criticised the Prime Minister for remaining silent on key issues, particularly the demand for a nationwide caste census, which opposition parties have made a central campaign plank in Bihar. He alleged that the BJP’s governance model ignores the concerns of backward and marginalised communities while favouring corporate interests.

The BJP responded sharply, accusing Gandhi of lowering the tone of political discourse and disrespecting the Prime Minister’s office. Party leaders said Gandhi’s comments showed “frustration” and a lack of vision from the opposition camp.

The fiery exchange comes as Bihar heads into a high-stakes two-phase Assembly election, scheduled for November 6 and 11, with counting on November 14. Political observers note that Gandhi’s remarks mark an escalation in the opposition’s aggressive campaign strategy, as the Mahagathbandhan seeks to challenge the NDA’s dominance by focusing on issues of unemployment, caste representation, and governance failures under the current regime.
