Assam Police have arrested a YouTuber from Lakhipur in Goalpara district for allegedly pirating Roi Roi Binale, the last film featuring late singer-actor Zubeen Garg. The accused, identified as Rafiqul Islam, was detained after he uploaded clips from the recently released film on his YouTube channel “Rafiqul R Vlogs.”

According to police officials, the arrest followed a complaint filed by the film’s producer, Shyamantak Gautam, at the Cyber Police Station in Panbazar, Guwahati. Gautam reported that within days of the film’s theatrical release on October 31, scenes from Roi Roi Binale had surfaced online, causing concern among the film’s makers. Acting swiftly, authorities tracked down the accused and seized his digital equipment. Rafiqul Islam was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court and remanded to police custody for three days.

The case has been registered under sections of the Copyright Act, Information Technology Act, and Cinematograph Act, which carry strict penalties for digital piracy. Police have also confirmed that further investigation is underway to identify if others were involved.

Roi Roi Binale, Zubeen Garg’s posthumous release, has received overwhelming support from audiences and is being celebrated as the singer’s long-cherished dream project. It has already emerged as one of the highest-grossing Assamese films to date. The piracy incident, however, has drawn sharp criticism from the Assamese film fraternity, which has called for stronger enforcement against digital leaks that threaten the growth of regional cinema.
