Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Parliament that the nation possesses the resolve and capability to overcome any challenge — and that the spirit of Vande Mataram symbolizes that very strength. He said the song is far more than a hymn: it is a source of inspiration that awakens citizens to their duties, and a motivating force as India strives to achieve its dream of a self-reliant and prosperous future.
Speaking during a discussion on the 150th anniversary of the national song, Modi recalled how “Vande Mataram” energized the freedom struggle and unified Indians in a common purpose. He urged that remembering the song today is a privilege and an opportunity — a call to dedicate ourselves once again to national progress. According to him, the same spirit that rallied people against colonial rule should now guide efforts to build a strong, developed India by 2047.
Modi said that at different points in history — whether under foreign oppression or internal crises — the song served as a rallying cry for courage, hope and resilience. It is that enduring legacy of unity and resolve that, he argued, makes “Vande Mataram” relevant even today.
He called upon all citizens, especially the youth, to embody this spirit in their pursuit of national development, self-reliance, and collective progress. In his view, “Vande Mataram” remains a timeless source of energy and unity — a reminder of India’s past triumphs and a guiding inspiration for its future ambitions.
