Prabhas’ highly anticipated horror-comedy The Raja Saab has received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after several edits to violent sequences, paving the way for its January 9 release during the Sankranthi festival. The board granted the film a U/A 16+ certificate, indicating that parental guidance is advised for viewers under 16, following modifications to certain scenes deemed too graphic.

The CBFC approval comes with a final runtime of approximately 189 minutes (3 hours 9 minutes). Filmmakers implemented the required changes, which included adjustments to two particularly intense sequences. One scene, showing blood being washed across the floor, was converted to monochrome to reduce the graphic impact. Another sequence depicting a beheading was shortened by about four seconds and transformed into quick flash visuals, softening the horror element while maintaining narrative continuity.

In addition to visual changes, the film’s audio description (AD) and closed captioning (CC) were also updated to comply with CBFC guidelines. A spokesperson for the board stated that the edits ensure the film meets regulatory standards without compromising the core storyline.

The Raja Saab, directed by Maruthi, is produced by People Media Factory and IVY Entertainment. The film stars Prabhas in the lead role alongside an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani, Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, Riddhi Kumar and Zarina Wahab. The story follows a man who brings home a mischievous spirit to protect his grandmother, blending elements of horror, comedy, and emotion in a family-friendly narrative aimed at the festive audience.

The CBFC certification, issued on December 24, 2025, allowed sufficient time for post-certification formalities before the film’s theatrical release. Industry insiders note that the edits strike a balance between creative intent and regulatory compliance, enabling a broader audience to enjoy the film while mitigating excessive gore.
